Ball Pythons originate from Central and Western Africa and thrive in warm, tropical environments. Ball Pythons are considered great pets for everyone from beginner to expert level enthusiasts. They are very popular pets as they are smaller in size in comparison to some snakes and they are very docile and friendly, although sometimes shy. Females typically grow up to be 3 to 5 feet long while males are usually about 2 to 3 feet. With proper care, Ball Pythons live to be up to 30 years old and there have been reports of some living to be 40. Prepare for a long life with your new friend!
A 36-inch by 18-inch by 12-inch enclosure should best suit this animal. Their enclosures can be as elaborate or simple as you want, just remember to disinfect everything as needed on a regular basis. Hides are necessary as they like to find shelter pretty regularly. They should have a basking spot and a cool spot to their enclosures. The hottest area of the terrarium should be at about 88 to 96 degrees F while the cooler spot should be between 78 to 80 degrees.
Ball Pythons eat small rodents that are appropriate in size for the size of the python. Rodents should be no larger in circumference to that of the largest circumference of your snake.
