The Common Musk Turtle can be found all over the U.S. They typically reach about 4 to 5 inches at full size and with proper care, can live up to 30 to 50 years old. They should be kept in an aquarium at least 20 gallons in length and should be provided with a submersible canister water filter. Use non-chlorinated water and the water should be just deep enough that they can touch their hind legs to the bottom of the tank while keeping their head above water. A floating dock should be provided as well in case the turtle wants to bask. A submersible heater should be kept at 72 to 78 degrees F to maintain water temperature while the air should be kept at around mid-80 degrees. The basking spot should be at about 90 degrees. They eat crickets, earthworms and cut up fish, as well Elodea species.
